The city of Waldshut-Tiengen is revolutionizing urban parking – in collaboration with Hectronic and our regional sales partner Gleichauf. Right on the doorstep of our Bonndorf production site, we have implemented an innovative parking system with 40 Citea parking machines. After successfully introducing license plate-based parking and completing a twelve-month test phase, the next step is now being taken: Starting March 1, 2025, paper tickets will be completely abolished!

Digital and user-friendly: The new license plate-based system
The system impresses with its simplicity: Parkers enter their license plate number at the machine and can pay with coins, contactless via bank card, or using digital wallets. The traditional walk back to the vehicle is eliminated entirely. Optionally, a digital parking ticket can be requested via QR code. License plate verification and payment control are efficiently carried out by municipal enforcement officers using handheld scanners. All data is processed in strict compliance with GDPR data protection regulations.

Digitalization as a driving force
For Ralph Albrecht, Head of the Legal and Regulatory Office of the city of Waldshut-Tiengen, the transition to digital parking tickets is significant for multiple reasons. Given the shortage of skilled workers, digitalization provides an opportunity to effectively compensate for missing capacities. At the same time, license plate-based parking eliminates potential sources of error when verifying parking durations. The elimination of paper tickets not only significantly reduces resource consumption but also prevents unnecessary waste in the city center, actively supporting the city’s sustainability goals.

A digital future
The collaboration between Waldshut-Tiengen and Hectronic continues: Digital resident parking permits and simplified license plate verifications are just a few of the tools currently being discussed. These innovations promise modern administrative processes that will make things easier for both the city and its citizens. "Let’s do it!" – this principle has made Waldshut-Tiengen a pioneer in sustainable parking management.
