Paying parking fees digitally, securely, and in real time directly from your bank account – without a credit card or extra registration: This is now a reality in Kassel. Kassel is the very first German city to integrate the new European payment solution, Wero, into its parking infrastructure. This forward-looking project is being implemented by Hectronic, a leading provider of payment solutions for charging, parking, and refueling.

The rollout is already in full swing: In an initial phase, 70 Hectronic parking machines have already been successfully equipped with the new feature. In the coming weeks, the system will be available across the entire expansion area of Parking Fee Zone II on what will then be over 360 Wero-enabled machines.

The payment process is incredibly simple: The Hectronic machines generate a dynamic QR code on the display. Users scan this code with their usual banking app or the Wero app and confirm the payment directly—the amount is deducted from their personal bank account in real time.

The integration of Wero offers tangible benefits not only for drivers but also for municipalities and parking facility operators:

• Protection against "quishing": Since the QR code appears on a display and is generated individually for each transaction, fraud via pasted-over or manipulated static QR codes is virtually impossible.
• Higher acceptance: The use of a centralized and versatile payment app eliminates tedious registration processes and the need to download an additional parking app
• European sovereignty: As a purely European payment solution, Wero strengthens independence from non-European payment networks and complies with the highest data privacy standards.
• Attractive cost structure: Compared to traditional credit card providers or international digital wallets, Wero is also highly economically attractive for operators.

I find it all the more important that contemporary payment options are offered. We in Kassel set off on the path toward new payment technologies over a decade ago. The European payment system Wero now taps into the reality of life for those who already naturally pay with their smartphones, smartwatches, and the like in stores. Of course, the city also hopes that the diverse possibilities of cashless payment will gradually reduce the need for the increasingly expensive management of loose change from the machines."
